Application Process

Is this program only for jazz and cabaret singers? No, the Great American Songbook covers a wide range of musical styles and can be interpreted in many ways, making it suitable for singers who excel in various genres. Participants are selected based on their individual talents and strengths, regardless of genre.

Can rising high school freshmen participate? The program is open to students in grades 9-12. Eighth-grade students will need to wait a year to apply but can still attend in-person or online events open to the public.

As an alum, can I reapply? Yes! Many students return for two and three years as each summer’s mentors and workshops offer new opportunities for growth. A reminder that being an alum does not guarantee acceptance to the program when reapplying, especially as screeners rotate and alumni status is not included in adjudication.

What is the application process and when will I hear if I am accepted? The application process involves submitting a form and audition videos by March 24, 2024, via GetAcceptd, with acceptance notifications sent out by April 17, 2024. Screening feedback will closely follow acceptance information. Learn more.

What are the costs and financial aid options? Tuition, housing, meals, and transportation are incorporated in the $1,000 program fee. There is also a $50 fee to apply. Financial aid options, including fee waivers and full program scholarships, are available. Learn more.

Where can I find appropriate songs or sheet music? Visit the Songbook Selections page for song ideas. To find sheet music, check local libraries, online music websites, or contact Archives@TheSongbook.org for original sheet music.
