The Great American Songbook Foundation has a dedicated team of docents, collections processors and Perfect Harmony volunteers who devote their time and talents to preserving and educating the Great American Songbook.
This week is National Volunteer week and we'll be showcasing one volunteer a day
Today's highlight: Susan Frick
What brought you to the Songbook Foundation?
In 2010 my husband and I attended our first Songbook Finals which was a pretty small affair at the University of Indianapolis. I was so impressed that I told my husband it was something I’d really like to get involved with when I retired.
When did you start volunteering for GASF?
My first day at the GASF was July 15, 2016...the Friday before Academy Week that year. It was a crazy day, and I was hooked!
What do you enjoy most about volunteering for GASF?
My favorite time is the week before and the week of the Songbook Academy every July.
Who are your favorite musical artists or composers?
Barry Manilow, Jim Brickman, and Michael Feinstein. I’m obviously partial to a man at the piano!
What are you watching, listening to or doing to keep yourself occupied in this time of social isolation?
I’ve become obsessed with sorting and organizing about a hundred years of family photographs.I might get it done if The Confinement of 2020 lasts about ten years. My husband and I are watching The West Wing for some semblance of political sanity.
What is your favorite GASF program?
The Songbook Academy is my favorite GASF program.
What is your favorite musical?
I’ve always loved The Fantasticks. In fact, the soundtrack is playing right now!
What makes you happy?
Spending time with my family and friends always makes me happy.
What's the luckiest thing that has happened to you?
My husband of 51 years and my son, daughter, and son-in-law are the luckiest things of my life.
