The Great American Songbook Foundation and Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre have partnered to celebrate the artistry of an iconic musician and Indiana native, Cole Porter.  Civic's production of Porter's Anything Goes opens the theater's 104th year of continuous operation, and eighth year at the Tarkington, on Friday, Oct. 12.

“Civic is extraordinarily lucky to have the Great American Songbook Foundation as its partner,” Civic Executive Artistic Director Michael Lasley said. “The important work they do in preserving and promoting this uniquely American genre makes it easier for us to produce such great works as Anything Goes.”

The Great American Songbook Foundation will display authentic Cole Porter and Anything Goes memorabilia from the Songbook Archives in the Tarkington lobby throughout the run of the show.  Some of these treasured materials include sheet music of the title song published as early as 1934 and LP's featuring artists from Bing Crosby to Mary Martin singing the show's timeless tunes!

“The continued relevance of our nation’s great popular music depends on the active re-interpretation of groundbreaking works that defined the Golden Age of the Great American Songbook,” said Chris Lewis, Executive Director of the Great American Songbook Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Civic Theatre as they bring this classic musical to life and write the next chapter for the Songbook’s artistic impact here in Central Indiana.”
