This summer is your chance to dive into your craft and grow as a vocalist, meet peers from across the country who love the classic music of Broadway, Jazz and Hollywood, and connect with professional mentors who will push you to a new artistic level in this educational music experience.
Program dates: July 17 - 24, 2021
What can you expect as a participant?
Each day, you will participate in interactive online workshops and masterclasses led by the nation's top university educators and vocal coaches; music directors who have played for artists like Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli, conducted Broadway national tours, and written orchestrations for concert and television series; and award-winning guest mentors who have starred on Broadway and concert stages across the world in their ground-breaking performance careers.
Workshops will cover a range of topics including, but not limited to:
- Vocal Technique
- Vocal Health
- Songbook 101 (music history)
- Song Interpretation
- Acting the Song
- Performance Technique
- Music Theatre, Jazz and Classical styles
- Music Business and Professional Etiquette
You will have an hour-long private coaching with your personal vocal coach and music director before the week begins to help you hone your skills, flesh out your unique style, work on an original arrangement (you will receive a personalized .mp3 recording of your arrangement) and get feedback that will help you thrive during Songbook Academy week. Interested in what this looks like? Take a behind-the-scenes look at some of our 2020 private sessions!
During the week, you will continue to have one-on-one coaching experiences, as well as small group workshops (8 students paired with 2 mentors) and large group masterclasses (full group of forty finalists) where you can learn alongside your peers.
Don't forget to have FUN!
Take full advantage of your Songbook Academy experience by participating in daily social opportunities and workshop electives that range from Audition Advice to promoting yourself as an artist in the music business.
